The poems in This Shaky Earth passionately evoke the feelings of time and memory that define our existence, seeking answers to the questions of what it feels like to be alive. I don’t remember when I first stumbled upon Daniel Crisman’s BASH script on Colours () but kept returning to it. I created a short PowerShell script, Out-Colors.ps1, to validate the output of PowerShell color commands and to see how they aligned with the Solarized specification. Trying to see if I was getting the Solarized color scheme colors correct, I started writing test scripts to help me see the results. PowerShell used a Dark Blue background instead of DOS’s Black, but little else. Although the Command Prompt had support for different colors, making changes sometimes had unexpected and adverse results. It was about this time that I was introduced to the cmd-colors-solarized ( permlink) project. While I had used a Solarized color scheme on my terminal for a while, Windows lacked any easy way to do this. Almost a year later, Wind(Anniversary Update) introduced the first significant version of the Console’s new VT engine and was quickly followed with the 1703 (Creators Update) release, which contained much richer support for a wider range of VT sequences. Even the change from DOS to NT, Microsoft’s compatibility story meant that introducing minor changes to how Command Prompt worked could result in significant breakdown in enterprise settings.įinally, with Wind(November Update) Microsoft introduced rudimentary ANSI Escape Sequence support. While Linux Terminal Emulators widely embraced the richness that ANSI Escape Sequences provided, Windows Command Prompts did nothing to change this. DOS did not have this support by default and because the driver used BIOS to change the color output to a screen, it was slow and used infrequently. ANSI Escape Sequences were adopted as a standardized way to control video terminal I/O including color building from the terminal design which has a linage going back to the teletype. ANSI.SYS was a driver loaded in CONFIG.SYS when DOS was initialized on boot, which allowed the console to process ANSI Escape Sequences. While the Windows Command Prompt has supported color since it was DOS, using the color command, MS-DOS 2.0 brought the world ANSI.SYS. Follow the code where it is checked in to the microsoft/terminal github ( permlink). Unlike particular comparisons of alternative prediction models on different datasets, Song et al.’s approach is much more fundamental: it does not focus on any specific prediction technique but rather on human behavior, as captured by the available data. This maximum is referred to as the predictability of the person’s mobility. Specifically, given a dataset containing a sequence of locations visited by an individual and representing a sample of the individual’s mobility, they proposed a technique that measures the maximum theoretical accuracy that an ideal prediction model could achieve on that dataset. , in which the authors proposed a fundamental technique that explores the concept of entropy to estimate how predictable a person’s mobility is, as expressed in a given dataset. Answering this question was the focus of a seminal paper by Song et al. Given the difficulties involved in predicting mobility-related behavior, one poses the question of to which extent such behavior can be predicted. However, human mobility is hard to predict, as there are many factors, such as the person’s mood, traffic conditions, and current weather, that play a role in mobility-related decisions. Many previous studies proposed mobility prediction strategies that use a myriad of techniques (e.g., Markov chains, logistic regression, neural networks, and so on), and used different types of data sources (call detail records from mobile traffic, GPS traces, and social media data, among others). Human mobility prediction has broad and important applications in areas such as urban planning, traffic engineering, epidemiology, recommender systems, and advertisement, to name a few. Our experiments show that our metrics are able to capture most of the variability in one’s routine (adjusted \(R^\) of up to 84.9% and 96.0% on a GPS and CDR datasets, respectively), and that routine behavior can be largely explained by three types of patterns: (i) stationary patterns, in which a person stays in her current location for a given time period, (ii) regular visits, in which people visit a few preferred locations with occasional visits to other places, and (iii) diversity of trajectories, in which people change the order in which they visit certain locations. Finally, we rely on previously proposed metrics, as well as a newly proposed one, to understand what affects the predictability of a person’s routine. To that end, we propose a technique that allows us to (i) quantify the effect of novelty on predictability, and (ii) gauge how much one’s routine deviates from a reference routine that is completely predictable, therefore estimating the amount of hard-to-predict behavior in one’s routine. Viewing one’s mobility in terms of these two components allows us to identify important patterns about the predictability of one’s mobility.Īdditionally, we argue that mobility behavior in the novelty component is hard to predict if we rely on the history of visited locations (as the predictability technique does), and therefore we here focus on analyzing what affects the predictability of one’s routine. In this paper, we propose to study predictability in terms of two components of human mobility: routine and novelty, where routine is related to preferential returns, and novelty is related to exploration. Although useful in several scenarios, this technique focused on human mobility as a monolithic entity, which poses challenges to understanding different types of behavior that may be hard to predict. In the case of mobility-related behavior, there exists a fundamental technique to estimate the predictability of an individual’s mobility, as expressed in a given dataset. Given the difficulties in predicting human behavior, one may wish to establish bounds on our ability to accurately perform such predictions. These messages are nerve impulses that control heartbeat, muscle contractions, and other body functions. In the nervous system, potassium in its cationic form helps to send messages between the brain and body. Potassium is necessary for the function of living cells because it plays a vital role in the nerve functions and fluid systems of humans. The cationic form of potassium combines with different anions to form salts. Like other alkali metals, it has a single valence electron that is easily removed, creating a cation. The electron configuration of potassium is 4s 1. It is an alkali metal with atomic number 19. In the periodic table, potassium (K) is in Group 1 and Period 4. Fertilizers use potassium salts as a source of plant nutrition. The commercial extraction of potassium salts is from evaporite deposits in ancient lake bottoms, for example, the Dead Sea.However, too many banan as will also lead to terrifying side effects. Five plantains or eleven bananas will supply enough daily amount of potassium. Bananas are a good source of potassium. Both potassium deficiency and excess can cause severe symptoms.Cells rely on potassium ions to function properly.40K can be found in all potassium, and is the most common radioisotope in the human body. Potassium has three main isotopes, and one of the isotopes 40K is radioactive.Fats can react with potassium hydroxide to produce soaps. The first metal separated by electrolysis was potassium. The second least dense metal after lithium is potassium. The name “potassium” also derives from “potash”. Potassium was first isolated from potash, plant ashes soaked in a pot with water.Ten interesting & fun facts about Potassium Additionally, potassium ions are essential for normal nerve transmission inside of living cells. Just like other alkali metals, potassium mainly takes the form of salts. This element is soft and has a silvery-white color. Potassium, represented with the symbol K, is one of the alkali metals. Jeremy Lin started at point guard last year and had a decent season, scoring 13.4 points a game to go with 6.1 assists, but he shot only 33.9 percent from outside. It remains to be seen how the two would play off each other down low, but Howard has not played well in the past while on the court with another center. Realizing that $8.3 million for a backup center is a bit overpriced, coach Kevin McHale has stated that he wants to experiment with both Asik and Howard in the same lineup together. Now all of a sudden, Asik finds himself on the bench backing up Howard, who has played 36.1 minutes a game in his nine-year career. He earned himself a $25 million, three-year deal with the Rockets last offseason and started all 82 games in 2013, averaging over 10 points a game to go with 11.7 rebounds. The status of center Omer Asik is the elephant in the room. He says he is now fully healthy and ready to go, and some Rockets fans think he'll help propel the team deep into the playoffs now that he's had a year to get back into game shape. If Howard has difficulty assimilating with Harden, this offense could stall at times as both players try to figure out how best to work with each other.Īlso, keep in mind that Howard is not that far removed from back surgery, and it showed last season with the Lakers. Last year, the Rockets had one of the highest-scoring, fastest teams in the NBA, while Howard has always loved operating in the post. Harden is not considered a selfish player, averaging 5.8 assists a game last season, but he likes to have the ball in his hands and often initiates the offense. The Rockets were clearly Harden's team last year, and he was top-15 in the league in both minutes played and usage rate (a stat that shows the percentage of offensive possessions used by a player while he's on the floor, via ). Howard wants to be featured on offense, but so far in his career hasn't shown much willingness to adapt to a coach's scheme that isn't built around him. Even though Morey has hit it out of the park the last few summers - first acquiring shooting guard James Harden from the Thunder in the summer of 2012 and signing Howard this past offseason - there are still a few unanswered questions remaining for the team. Houston GM Daryl Morey deserves a round of applause from Rockets fans for not only convincing superstar center Dwight Howard to come to town, but also for maintaining a solid base of talent around him. Chris has been doing great work on these previews, so for your Friday post here's his look at the Houston Rockets. NO.This important Western Conference preview got bumped off the cover by the national preview of the Blazers yesterday. Patrick Beverley will continue to start but Canaan will certainly get minutes because of the Rockets lack of depth and the former Murray State star has a chance to really carve out a role in Houston this season. Last year, he played in just 22 games, averaging 4.6 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 11.5 minutes per game. With Lin gone, Canaan is going to have a much bigger role. He averaged 18.3 points, 12.2 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.8 assists per game last season. If the Rockets are going to go anywhere, Howard needs to turn them into one of the best defensive units in basketball, just like he did with the Orlando Magic. Howard hasn’t been that same player, largely because of his back injury, but last year he showed signs that he can still be effective on offense and an absolute monster on defense. Head Coach: Kevin McHale, fourth season (324-172, 133-97 with Rockets)ĭwight Howard is only a few years removed from being a legitimate MVP candidate and maybe even should have won the award back in 2011 ( Chicago Bulls‘ point guard Derrick Rose took home the MVP). Rookie Class: Clint Capela, Nick Johnson, Alessandro Gentile Key Departures: Chandler Parsons, Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin They failed to land both Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh, lost Chandler Parsons to the Dallas Mavericks and traded both Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin. The Rockets tried to land a big fish in free agency and ultimately ended up losing depth, which has many questioning whether or not they can truly play with the elite teams in the Western Conference.
